Many of us likely know Giovanni Coprario, Thomas Lupo, Alfonso Ferrabosco the Younger, and Orlando Gibbons as four giants of the viol consort repertoire. But did you know that they all played in a consort together? For our May 31st PlayDay, we’re going to sample a selection of Fantasias, Pavans, and In nomines by these four composers, exploring the ways in which they (presumably) wrote for each other.
